What to do after SSM registration

SSM registration is the beginning, not the end, of business setup. Use this sequence to identify the official body or professional adviser for each next step.

1. Banking and payments

Ask the bank which documents apply to your entity. Document payment authority, refunds and daily reconciliation so private and business transactions do not remain mixed.

2. Tax identity

HASiL reminds business owners to handle taxpayer registration when starting business. Confirm the correct TIN, MyTax access, correspondence address and filing form for the entity.

3. Business, industry and signboard licences

Use MalaysiaBiz and the relevant local authority to check premise, industry and signboard approvals. SSM registration does not replace them.

4. Payment controls

  • Choose cash, transfer, card, wallet and online channels
  • Document refund, discount and cancellation authority
  • Reconcile settlements daily
  • Keep formal customer, supplier and payment-provider records

5. Records

Create categories for sales, purchases, expenses, banking, contracts and employee records from day one. Confirm retention rules with the relevant authority or adviser.

6. Before hiring

Check KWSP, PERKESO/SOCSO, EIS, payslip and employment responsibilities before the first payroll, not after it.

7. e-Invoice readiness

After confirming applicability, review TIN, registration number, MSIC, trading-party records, product/service data and whether the POS or accounting system holds the required fields.

8. POS and accounting

Map who invoices, refunds and reconciles; how stock updates; how data is backed up; and how the supplier supports e-Invoice. Hardware price alone is not a system assessment.

9. Public business information

Keep the public name, address, hours and contact details accurate. Consider privacy and display rules before publishing a home or shared address.
